Privacy and the ethical collection and use of data is important to us here at UserSignals. Keep reading to learn more about the information we collect and how we use it.
Information Collection, Use and Retention
By integrating UserSignals with your website we will automatically collect information about your users including user ID, pages visited, on-page activities such as clicks and form submissions, browser errors, page load speed, form submissions and more. We do not collect any user input within form fields. By using UserSignals you authorize us to collect and store this information about your users or visitors for your organization to use for supporting your business and users/customers.
Because UserSignals is not set up to handle certain types of sensitive information, the transfer of sensitive information or some types of PII such as addresses, medical data and government identification numbers may constitute violation of our terms of service and may result in account termination or the removal of sensitive data without notice or warning.
If you need to use sensitive information in conjunction with the data we collect, we recommend exporting your UserSignals data and joining it to data within your own system or sending us an abstracted token or identifier that represents meaningful information within your organization but is not representative of meaningful data to third parties.
Typically, UserSignals retains collected data for 3 months from the date of collection after which it will be scheduled to be automatically removed from our system. Our data retention period can be customized by request. When a customer chooses to end their business relationship with UserSignals we will schedule any data that we have collected to be automatically removed from our systems.
User Identification and Tracking
To associate your activity with your user account, customers using UserSignals will pass your user ID into any event that is sent to us so that we can properly attribute which user did what. When a user ID is not available we assign a pseudo ID using cookies or browser storage to identify you and associate your activity with a future user ID if one becomes available through sign up or sign in. If this cookie is cleared from your system and a user ID has not become available any activity tracked can no longer be associated with you or your device.
As data processor, UserSignals processes and stores data on the behalf of our customers. As of April 2018 all data that we collect is processed internally and stored either within a data center operated by Liquid Web or within Amazon's AWS platform. Only select individuals within the UserSignals team have direct access to the data that we collect or the ability to interact with any of the processing utilities that we use.
The data we collect will not be shared with, transferred to or sold to any third party, advertiser, vendor, or any other company or organization without your consent except where required for compliance with data governance laws and law enforcement in your region. You can extract the data we collect about your users at any time through the export utility.
